WHAT IS Positive Behavior Support?
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) gives people a new way to think about behavior. PBS is based on understanding why problem behaviors occur – the behavior’s function.
The PBS process results in the creation of effective intervention plans that will impede problem behaviors, teach new skills, and create support systems for the student.
PBS methods are research-based and proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors in the school, resulting in a more positive school climate and increased academic performance (State of Florida Department of Education 2002).
Is your student acting like a CRANE?
Our expectation is that ALL students at Sandhill Elementary will follow these Positive CRANE Behaviors:
C-Courteous Knowing what manners are and using them in all situations
R-Responsible Being honest, trustworthy and reliable
A-Attentive Not only paying attention to the lesson but also being observant at all times
N-Noble Putting others before yourself
E-Exemplary Giving everything you do your best effort
Students are rewarded consistently throughout the year for their CRANE-like behavior!
This year, we are using CRANE punch cards, where students can earn signatures when they are caught exhibiting CRANE behavior. We will have quarterly celebrations for students who have earned 80% of the required signatures.
